Four more classic episodes starring Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan. More surreal clowning from one of the greatest comedy teams on radio. In these episodes, there's a monster on Mount Snowdon and Neddie Seagoon tries to capture the monster for a reward, a mustard and cress shortage causes havoc to British Railways, a statue of King James II is to be removed from Trafalgar Square, and Neddie plunders a sunken Spanish galleon. Contains The Thing on the Mountain - Series 8, Episode 15 (6 January 1958), The Collapse of the British Railway Sandwich System (Transcription Service version) - (Recorded 12 January 1958), The Great Statue Debate - Series 8, Episode 26 (24 March 1958) & The Silver Doubloons - Series 10, Episode 5 (21 January 1960).

Goon Show Vol 29 We're in the Wrong House Again! (Audible Audio Edition) Spike Milligan Peter Sellers BBC Worldwide Limited Books

The continuing (mis) adventures of Neddie Seagoon, Moriarity, Grytpype-Thynne, Bluebottle, Minnie Henry. And the Famous Eccles! The Goon Show was an inspiration of the Monty Python cast, and as a Python fan myself, I took to the Goons right off.

Goon Show Vol 29 We're in the Wrong House Again! (Audible Audio Edition) Spike Milligan Peter Sellers BBC Worldwide Limited Books Reviews

The BBC's painfully slow drip-feed release of its surviving recordings of classic Goon Shows continues with this 29th volume in the series, "We're in the Wrong House Again!", featuring two shows from Series 8 of 1959 (15 'The Thing on the Mountain'; 26 'The Great Statue Debate'), one from Series 10 of 1960 (5 'The Silver Dubloons') and one from "The Vintage Goons" series, recorded for transmission overseas in 1958, 'The Collapse of the British Railway Sandwich System', itself a reworked version of 'The Great Mustard and Cress Shortage', an episode from Series 4. Given the high standards to which all Goon Shows were written, performed and produced, it doesn't really matter what episodes are here -- any two-hour collection of Goon Shows is guaranteed to be worth every penny. For those who care about these matters, however, these episodes come variously from the pens of Larry Stephens and Maurice Wiltshire, Spike Milligan and John Antrobus, with two by Spike Milligan alone,

In this collection, the regular cast of Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe provide the usual mix of spon, burning trousers, cardboard cutout replicas of Major Bloodnok's kneecaps (priced 2 shillings in all good drug stores) all peppered with digs at just about every great British institution and periodically summarised in immortal verse by the great poet McGoonagall and interlaced with music from the Ray Ellington Quartet and Max Geldray and announcements by Wallace Greenslade. Valentine Dial makes a guest appearance in one episode of this collection. The show was famous in its day for its unique brand of surreal, farcical quick-fire humour that knew no bounds and which held nothing sacred. Its bizarre sound effects were ground-breaking and state of the art too and still sound brilliant today. The show changed the face of British comedy for all time. Its unique blend of irreverence and crazy catch phrases inspired generations of great British comedy writers -- and indeed continues to do so even today. But the greatest success of the Goon Show in its day lay in the way it demonstrated that there was a Britain determined to laugh its way out of post-war austerity. If you haven't encountered the show before, perhaps now would be a good time to become acquainted with it -- just jump in anywhere and don't worry if you can't follow all of the jokes; you're not really meant to.

But now, the screens, nurse! Quick, the screens!
