The Sky hates Kyle. He's not sure exactly what he did to anger The Sky, but now, Kyle's life is a nightmare. He loses his job, his girlfriend leaves him, not to mention he's assaulted by hail, rain, flying condoms and anything The Sky can possibly throw at him. Trees fall on his house, and hurricanes are sent after him. And that's just the beginning. Enigmatic emissaries of The Sky come and lend their brand of aid, which only succeeds in sending Kyle on a journey into madness, crime, redemption, sexual indiscretions and despair. Can Kyle make peace with The Sky, or will the entire world always conspire against him?

Hate From the Sky eBook Sean M Thompson
Sean M. Thompson's entry into the New Bizarro Author Series is WILD. What do you expect when the book is about a guy who is utterly and often violently detested by the Sky? Yes, the Sky Above, so beautiful, so life-giving, so brutal!Kyle is already hated by the Sky, for reasons unknown, when the book begins. But it doesn't take long for the hatred to intensify to a harrowing level. While that storyline lured me in with its promise of true Bizarro spirit, I'm happy to report that the hate of the title is NOT the weirdest thing in the book! Oh no, it gets stranger and more unpredictable until an ending that leaves you wondering what just hit you (and hoping it wasn't debris thrown at you by a cranky Sky.) It starts off odd and gets odder with each turned page. Just wait for the motel scene. You'll see what I mean.
The book is quite literally laugh out loud funny. Few books actually make me crack up and this what has my girlfriend wondering why I was cackling. It is dark, also, almost nihilistic or cosmic pessimistic, but it ends on a note you'll never see coming that left me feeling surprisingly hopeful.
I can say one of my favorite things to say about a book here: I had a lot of fun reading it and will probably read it again next time everything in my life looks bleak and I need a character who can commiserate with me. I gave it four stars because I can tell Thompson will top this book someday and I want to have room at the top to rate up a star. But I can't think of anything about this book I'd improve except maybe to make it a bit longer. I could've easily spent another 30 pages in the company of Kyle and the hateful Sky.

Hate From the Sky eBook Sean M Thompson Reviews
A burgeoning voice in the horror and weird genres, Sean Thompson's work is consistently entertaining and entirely unique, and Hate from the Sky is no exception. As soon as I received the review copy of this title, I couldn't wait to dig in. An utterly fantastic concept---a man who is personally despised by the firmament---combines with striking prose and great characters for an unforgettably strange adventure. Hate from the Sky has found a perfect home in Eraserhead Press's incredible New Bizarro Author Series. Read this title, and then be sure to read all the rest from the series as well. If you like your fiction awesome and weird, then you won't be disappointed.
I finally got a copy of Sean M. Thompson's Hate From The Sky (2016, Eraserhead Press) and sat down to read it. The caveat here is that this is my first foray into the Bizarro genre, so forgive me if my criteria is off. Superficially, this book is what it says, a guy, Kyle, is hated for an unknown reason by the actual Sky; not an anthropomorphic deity or sky god, but the actual sky. And as the sky is literally omnipresent, and somewhat malicious, Kyle is bullied throughout the book, with the Sky throwing pretty much everything it can at Kyle, slowly breaking him down and driving him down the path of insanity. It reminded me of the film After Hours as the more Kyle tries, the more horrible things get.
On the way there, Thompson blends tropes from several genres, bending them to create a story that, while frightening, displays an almost dead-pan sense of humor. Kyle himself seems to take the horrible situations that he finds himself in and, while despairing, soldiers on, knowing that he has no choice but to try to make amends with the Sky for a slight he doesn't know that he committed.
One of the things that Thompson does well is to take a situation of cosmic horror, getting harassed by the sky, and personalize it to the point where we can see the ridiculousness of the situation. We've all felt the self-important pity that forces beyond our control are out to get us, whether that manifests as an Alien Superfiend ala Cthulhu, a slightly malignant universe, or the sky itself, and Thompson shows us the banality of this point of view.
All in all, Hate From The Sky is well worth picking up and at 80 pages, it leaves one wanting more from Thompson, I know I'm looking forward to his next work.
HATE FROM THE SKY is a brilliant comedy of errors about a young man's increasingly desperate attempts to end the vendetta the vengeful Sky has against him. Imagine the scatalogical horror-comedy of David Wong cut with the nihilism of Thomas Ligotti and you'll get the picture.
You'll never be comfortable in a hotel bathroom again after reading this.
I like my bizarro as dark as it is weird, and this book fills out the requirement for both of those tastes. It's quick to read and never boring, laugh out loud funny at parts and nihilistic at others. Really cool surreal bits, and the writing style was quite cool, changing in tone at certain bits to really pull you into the story. Recommended.
Gonzo magical realism and jolly nihilism, "Hate from the Sky" is Sean M. Thompson at his most unhinged. As sick, sleezy and wild as the story gets, there is a moral here. And a damn good ride in a black ambulance.
Reading Hate From The Sky was a bit like riding a merry go round at break neck speeds, backward while catching glimpses of someone's t.v. in the window across the street. You kinda get what's going on and for a brief time you may even feel like you are having fun. Ultimately though you leave feeling shaky, nauseous and kind of like you want to do it all over again!
